Dodgeball

Dec 12th, 2007 | By Bruce Goldfarb | Category: Outdoors, Sports

Every Thursday night at 9 p.m., dozens of aspiring Patches O’Houlihans gather at the basketball court next to Hillcrest Elementary School in Catonsville for a pick-up game of dodgeball.

For two sweaty hours, spontaneously formed teams side up and compete for the distinction of…..well, there is no distinction. Anybody who shows up is welcome to play — at your own risk.

In October, dodgeball moves indoors to the nearby Bloomsbury Field House.

The games are organized by the Baltimore Dodgeball Alliance, which has a core team good enough to go to the national dodgeball championships in Las Vegas in September of 2006. Yes, the nationals. In Las Vegas. Sound familiar?
