Star of stage, screen and TV, Lance Reddick was born and raised in Baltimore. He attended high school at Friends School and both of his parents taught in the Baltimore City public school system.
Reddick, known for the earnest intensity he brings to his acting, had originally intended to carve out a career as a musician. Toward that end he attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, majoring in classical composition, though his interests eventually shifted to pop music.
After leaving Eastman, Reddick struggled to make a career as a pop musician. He took on acting roles “as a way to help jumpstart his music career.”
Soon acting began to overshadow Reddick’s musical aspirations. He has appeared on the stage, in film and in numerous TV shows, including pivotal roles in Oz (as Detective John Basil), The Wire (as Lt. Cedric Daniels), Lost (as Matthew Abaddon) and Fringe (as Phillip Boyles).
Reddick considers himself to be both an actor and a songwriter and in 2008 independently released an online CD available for download on his official website. –Lenora Genovese
