Nine North Front Street

The last surviving example of a group of three-story brick homes built in the 1790s for merchants, artisans and gentlemen. Nine N. Front street was the home of Thorowgood Smith until he was elected Baltimore’s second mayor in 1804.

Over the years, the building has been a hotel, restaurant, apartment house, and a used auto parts shop. Slated for demolition, the home was rescued by the Women’s Civic League, which began restoring the building in 1972 and now uses it as headquarters.

Tours are available by appointment.

Admission is free
